Anti-Oppression Library
The DWC has a library of over 600 books, journals, and videos and DVDs on topics ranging from feminist philosophy to women’s history, health, spirituality, sexuality, gender, racism, and theories of oppression. We have materials for both personal reading and research. These materials may be borrowed from our library. You can also check out our links page for some useful resource websites.
The DWC Library is open to all community members. Like the rest of our services, the library is gender inclusive.
DalOut Library
In December 2005, DalOut generously donated its fabulous LGBTQ library to the DWC. The decision to house the LGBTQ library with us was made in order to ensure greater access of its resources to all Dalhousie students and the broader Halifax community. The DalOut library has over 250 titles.
Thanks to the DalOut Society and especially Peter, Tina, and Jared for their incredible generosity.

My Gender Workbook by Kate Barnstein
This popular title explores the Big G. (gender)—and how it may or may not exist—through this fun and interactive “workbook”. Barnstein, a transgendered writer and performer, as well as an an “authority on living outside the rules”, offers the full scope of the gender binary (male/female) and its impact on every aspect of life. Curl up with a cup of coffee and and a pencil”this one’s messy!
The Brandon Teena Story
One of the best documentaries of our time, The Brandon Teena Story tells the real story of the man behind the Oscar Winning independent film, Boy’s Don’t Cry. The rape and murder of Brandon Teena by two “friends” during the Christmas Holidays of 1993 made national headlines. This documentary tells his story through the people who knew and loved him most. Harrowing, disturbing, yet ultimately inspiring, his journey is a legacy for us all. This film is an excellent way to remember where we come from and far we have left to go as we celebrate Pride.
